A Metre Matters
Can you help the AGF make our roads safer for cyclists:
Research has shown that around two thirds of serious cyclist accidents occur during peak hours on weekdays, with most resulting from contact with motor vehicles. We also know that many of these accidents happen in daylight on straight, open, city roads, implying the issue is motorist awareness of cyclists rather than road conditions.
This has resulted in the new Amy Gillett Foundation campaign ‘a metre matters’ aimed at encouraging motorists to provide more space on the road to cyclists.
A range of strategies will support this program including ‘a metre matters’ jerseys being included in all Amy’s Rides – Adelaide 1/11/09, Geelong 3/1/10 and Canberra 14/3/10.

(Supported by Motor Accident Commission)
We are also in the process of producing a television commercial which will highlight the emotional impact on the driver and their family if they make contact with a cyclist while driving. This commercial will be launched in late November with the support of Channel Ten, Foxtel and Val Morgan Cinema Advertising.
How can you help:
• Tell your friends, motorists and cyclists about the campaign to spread the word about leaving an extra metre for cyclists.
• Join up for Amy’s Rides and wear the jersey to help promote the message.
• The AGF needs to raise funds for the production of the commercial and we are calling on all Australian road users to help us. All donations are tax deductible and will be listed on our site
