A new Patron and a new Ambassador for the Foundation
9th August 2010
The Amy Gillett Foundation is delighted to announce that Simon Gillett has been appointed as one of the Foundation's three Patrons, alongside Mark Webber and Phil Anderson. Simon, who married Amy Gillett in 2004 has played an instrumental role in the vision, establishment and growth of the Foundation. After four years as a Board Member, Simon’s appointment as Patron is highly relevant, ensuring that the essence and vision of the Foundation remains as we evolve.
"I am honoured to be a patron of the Foundation bearing Amy's name, grateful that I have Mark Webber and Phil Anderson as fellow patrons. I am also very excited about the direction the AGF is heading, including the number of important projects in the pipeline"
The Foundation also embraces Warren McDonald, former Australian National Women’s Road Cycling and Olympic Coach. Warren was coach of the Australian Women’s Road Cycling Team in 2005 when Amy Gillett was one of his charges. Warren was following the team as they were training when the devastating tragedy occurred, taking Amy’s life and severely injuring Amy’s teammates, and dramatically affecting the lives of many people including Warren.
Warren has devoted his career to the development of cycling in Australia, through coaching developing and elite male and female athletes to success from National through to the International level. Warren has turned his focus in recent times to talent identification and coaching development.
Warren’s role as an Ambassador will be invaluable in terms of the personal and professional contribution he will make in our efforts to make the roads safer for all road users. Warren will also be involved in the Amy Gillett Scholarship, and engaging with our elite cyclists and in the community.
