Geelong – Bellarine Peninsula
Sunday 06 January 2008

Our third Amy’s Ride Victoria was a resounding success. More than 2,000 riders participated in the day’s activities – thanks to everyone who took part and made the day such a great success!

Riders of all ages and fitness levels were joined by Tour de France heroes Cadel Evans and Stuart O’Grady, the ‘voice of cycling, Phil Liggett, and many other sporting stars and celebrities including Michael Klim, Sam Mitchell, Danny Frawley, Mike McKay, Michael Roberts, Mark Hindmarsh, Luke Darcy, Cameron McConville, Emma Carney and Dr Peter Larkin.  It was also great to see Amy’s teammates Louise Padgett and Alexis Rhodes take the start line.

Local cycling sensation, Cadel Evans, officially presented the Amy Gillett Foundation with a $40,000 cheque, a portion of his $50,000 prize money as recipient of the 2007 Sports Star of the Year award.  In addition, early indications are that Amy’s Ride participants have helped to raise $65,000.

Weather conditions were perfect and participants enjoyed the 120kms or 65kms stretch of Bellarine Peninsula at its very best.  Budding cyclists and youngsters tested out brand new Christmas presents and rode the  ‘Go for your life’ 1km family loop.  ‘Go for your life’ also entertained the children with hoola hoop, hacky sack and a variety of other interactive games.  Another popular attraction was the face painting, with many children walking around with colourful faces and arms.

Don’t forget

The Amy’s Ride Fundraising Challenge is still open, so you can keep on fundraising. The Amy’s Ride Fundraising Challenge will close 5.00pm AEDST, 31 January 2008.
