Amy's Ride Albury - Sunday 7 March 2009

On Saturday 7th of March in superb clear conditions the first Regional Amy’s Ride was held in Albury, it was also the first NSW Amy’s Ride.  The participant numbers were evenly split with 113 riders in each of the the 124 km and 40km rides. The 124km ride, commencing at 7:00am rode through the undulating NSW and Victorian border areas, including crossing the Hume Dam wall and a couple of challenging hills.  The 40km ride, starting at 8:00am, stayed closer to Albury but also went through each State and included the picturesque ride across the Hume Dam wall.  The 40km ride was also noteworthy in that it had more female participants than males.

The rides were part of the Multisport AlburyCity weekend organised by AlburyCity which included mountain biking, running, an aquathon, roller blading, cycling criteriums and a host of other exciting events.  A very successful and enjoyable weekend for all of the 1,000 plus participants involved and the numerous spectators.

The Amy’s Rides were organised by the Rotary Club of Bellbridge Lake Hume who did a fabulous job in keeping all the riders organised and safe.  As an opportunity for the Foundation to take our shared respect message to regional areas, Amy’s Ride Albury was very worthwhile and was also a good fundraising opportunity.

This event was coordinated by the Rotary Club of Lake Hume and supported by the Amy Gillett Foundation.
