Registration
The start area is at Eastern Park, Geelong Botanic Gardens (Melways Ref: 402 N6). Pre-ride information and late entry registration will be open from 7.30am Sunday 04 January. All rides also end in Eastern Park, where de-registration will take place until 3:30pm.
As there will be thousands of keen and eager bike riders lining up at the start line, we ask you to be patient and follow the instructions of the organisers and volunteer route marshals who will progressively start large groups of riders in waves in order to manage the flow of traffic. In keeping with the aims and message of the Amy Gillett Foundation (AGF), an orderly and staggered start will assist all riders adhering to the AGF safety principles as riders move from the park environment onto the main Geelong roadways. Remember, it’s not a race. Take your time and enjoy being out with your friends/family. Finally, you can change your mind. You can change your designated ride distance at any time without notifying us.

Eastern Park traffic and parking arrangements
The Course: 120kms Road Ride
Start Time: 8.30am
Cyclists will follow the Volvo lead vehicle out of the park via Limeburners Road past the Eastern Golf Course, exiting the park by turning left onto Ryrie Street and Geelong-Portarlington Road. Vehicle traffic will be speed-restricted and traffic cones will separate riders from the motor vehicles. Proceed through to Moolap Station Road. A twin lane roadway with undulating hills takes you out of Geelong, past Point Henry and Moolap. It is important that riders, ride no more than two abreast and be cautious when overtaking slower cyclists. Be respectful of all other road users.
The course turns left at Jetty Road (17kms) and proceeds into the township of Clifton Springs. A superb vista of an emerald, Port Phillip Bay greets riders as they reach the centre of Clifton Springs and turn right into Bayshore Avenue; the Clifton Springs Golf Course will be on the left.
A quick dog leg from Bayshore Road into Whitcombes Road brings riders back onto the Geelong – Portarlington Road, (22.7kms). Caution is required on this corner. Traffic will be restricted and safety is paramount at this intersection.
Rolling hills and a good road surface will bring riders through to Portarlington (30kms). From Portarlington the ride follows the shoreline with breathtaking views of Melbourne on a clear day. After St Leonards and Indented Head the course winds it way towards Queenscliff before turning right into historic Pt Lonsdale (60kms). All riders are reminded to be respectful of residents and holiday makers in the area and ride with caution.
From Pt Lonsdale the course follows Shell Road into Ocean Grove, and your first view of Bass Strait. Continue down to the roundabout and a left turn at Barwon Heads-Ocean Grove Road. The infamous wooden bridge over the Barwon River delivers you into the quaint seaside resort of Barwon Heads (80kms).
Turn left to follow the head-turning coastal scenery of The Surf Coast, past the Barwon Heads Golf Course and 13th Beach. Then it’s onto Blackrock Road, Breamlea Road, Blackgate Road and head for Geelong on Horseshoe Bend Rd (106kms).
After the rolling and quiet rural roadways, traffic will increase as you get closer to Geelong - so stay alert, look for direction signs as you proceed along Breakwater Road, Fellmongers (110kms) and Boundary Roads. Follow Myers Street into Meakin Street, where you will cross Ryrie Street directly into Eastern Park at Holt Road.

At the round-about approaching Drysdale, the 65kms riders will turn right into Grubb Road. The Course: 22km Road and Scenic Rail Trail Ride
Start Time: 9.15am
Cyclists will follow the lead vehicle out of the park via Limeburners Road past the Eastern Golf Course, exiting the park by turning left onto Ryrie Street and Geelong-Portarlington Road. Vehicle traffic will be speed-restricted and traffic cones will separate riders from the vehicles. A left hand turn into Point Henry Road and the riders continue along this road for about 4kms passing the Cheetham Salt Plains until they reach the Drink Station. About 1.1km down, cyclists turn right onto the Rail Trail where they continue for 500m on light gravel before they approach the Bellarine Hwy. Crossing with care, cyclists then reach the recently upgraded Bellarine Rail Trail to enjoy the scenic route enhanced by the hard working ‘Friends of the Rail Trail’.
There is a road crossing at Coppards Rd and Wilsons Road that will be marshaled to provide extra ‘eyes’. When the cyclists reach Boundary Road they join up with the 120km and 65km route riders. The Course: Go for your life 1km kids loop (closed circuit)
Start Time: 9.30am
A great option is available for families with younger riders or as an introductory ride for those who are less confident of making the longer distances, yet still wish to participate. A closed, looped circuit around Eastern Park allows you to ride to your heart’s content, clock up the km’s and have the chance to share the circuit with some of Australia’s top pro-riders as they warm up for the afternoon’s events. It is a wide road and it will be closed to other traffic. Quite a few of the Bay Classic stars and some non-cycling celebrities will be riding this option so it should be a lot of fun. You can do as many laps as you like up until 12noon and stop for a coffee whenever you wish!
