Sunday 3rd of January, 2010 saw 2500 cyclists join world champ, Cadel Evans, in the fifth annual Victorian Amy's Ride on the Bellarine Peninsula.
The ride was a great success with 2,500 riders raising over $230,000 for the Road Safety Programs of the Amy Gillett Foundation.
Amy Gillett Foundation Ambassador Cadel Evans, resplendent in his World Champions Jersey, lead off the ride with AGF Patron Phil Anderson and Tour De France heroes Robbie McEwen, Baden Cooke and Phil Liggett.
The participants in the ride wore the new Amy Gillett Foundation 'A Metre Matters' jersey, encouraging motorists to provide an extra metre of space on the road for cyclists. This jersey was also used in the November Amy's Ride Adelaide and will again be used in the inaugural Amy's Ride Canberra on March 14th. The jerseys are part of the broader 'A Metre Matters' campaign to raise motorists awareness of cyclists on our roads and to provide a safe distance when passing.
Our thanks go to Cycling Events for their support of Amy’s Ride and a big thank you to all the volunteers and supporters who helped in ensuring the ride is so safe and well organised. Overall it was a very successful day and we thank all participants who took part and thank them for their support of the AGF and our programs to increase road safety for bike riders.
For those who kept an eye out for the photographers and had their photo taken on the ride - photos can be viewed and purchased - $2 of each photo is donated to the AGF
AGF / a metre matters jersey:
Thank you to everyone for the understanding about our running out of particular jersey sizes and our inability to swap sizes on the day. We have a lot of paperwork and cleaning up to do so please be patient whilst we work out the best way to arrange jersey orders. Please note that we have placed the final order and therefore unlikely to be able to do anymore jersey size swaping. Jerseys are expected to arrive at the AGF office early February.
