2010 - Sydney Surrounds

From Tuesday 8 November to Sunday 14 November, 2010, 36 highly motivated individuals raised much needed awareness of the Foundation’s objectives in the Sydney region.

The six day ride covered 820km of NSW's stunning countryside, including Blackheath, Mudgee, Muswellbrook, Pokolbin and Terrigal before finishing back in Sydney.

Riders included AGF Board members Simon Gillett, Duncan Murray, Stephen Hodge and Matt Pringle and many other business and community leaders from around Australia. A few professional cyclists also joined in the fun, Rochelle Gilmore, Carla Ryan and former pro's Matt White and Phil Anderson and 2010 Amy Gillett Cycling Scholarship recipient Rachel Neylan.

In 2010,  an amazing $270,000 was raised through rider fundraising and sponsorship, and the Gala Dinner raffle and auction!

Proceeds have supported three significant initiatives:
•    A ground-breaking national bicycling community galvanisation process facilitated by the AGF over the past 6 months, bringing together all the major state and national bicycling organisations across the participation/recreation/transport, sport and industry sectors. Many collaborative initiatives have sprung from this process, including for the Foundation strengthened partnerships in safety initiatives;
•    Creative development for a new national bicycling awareness campaign focussing on ‘humanising the bike rider’ and appealing to young drivers, currently being socialised with government, corporates and media alike; and
•    Sponsorship of the 2011 AGF Cycling Scholarship (Jo Hogan is the newly appointed recipient).

2009 - Canberra to Melbourne

From Monday 23 November to Saturday 28 November 2009, 27 intrepid AGF supporters rode from Canberra to Melbourne to support the new "A Metre Matters" road safety campaign.

The six day ride covered 830km including heading over the Australian Alps, taking in Jindabyne, Khancoban, Beechworth, Mansfield and Yarra Glen before finishing at Port Melbourne. Money raised from the ride went towards funding the AGF’s road safety campaigns aimed at decreasing accidents between motorists and cyclists.  The ride was also used to launch the AGF’s "A Metre Matters" campaign aimed at encouraging motorists to provide more space on the road for cyclists.

Riders included AGF Board members Simon Gillett, Duncan Murray, Stephen Hodge and Matt Pringle and a range of business and community leaders from around Australia.  A number of well known cyclists including Matt White, Dave McKenzie, Matt Tilley and cycling great Phil Anderson also participated in the ride, along with three Amy Gillett Scholarship recipients Amber Halliday, Carlee Taylor and Jessie MacLean.

Just over $230,000 was raised in 2009, contributing towards:
•    The roll-out of the nationwide A Metre Matters campaign which was launched at the start of the 2009 event at New Parliament House
•    The 3rd season of the RoadRight Learner Driver program; and
•    Sponsorship of the 2010 AGF Cycling Scholarship (Rachel Neylan was the recipient).
