On the road with Carlee
30 July 2008 I am loving my time here in Italy and enjoying the racing. Yesterday I got back from France where we competed in the Tour De Limousin. The race was held over four days, with a prologue and three road races. Overall I came 11th on GC and was 2nd in the young rider classification (U23). The week before that race I competed in a one day race in Cento Italy. The race was flat and fast, completing 15 laps of a circuit with a 500m section of cobbles each lap. Some of the more experienced riders such as Oenone Wood, Emma Richards and Rochelle Gilmore joined us in this race and it was good having them in the team to learn from them.
5 August 2008 Things are going well over here and I am enjoying all the racing I am doing. On the weekend we drove to Bochum, Germany, where we competed in a criterium on the Saturday and a UCI 1.1 road race on the Sunday. The Saturday's crit was really fun and our team won the race. This weekend we are off again to compete in the Holland Hills Classic, but I think we will all find time to watch the Olympic Road Race!
15 August 2008 This week we have had training and we don't race until next weekend, which is Plouay. Plouay is a World Cup race in France and, from what others have said, it sounds like it will be quite a hard race. Last weekend we travelled to the Holland Hills Classic. It was only a one day race of 103km, but in that distance there was something like 12 hills. The race was quite hard and of the 150+ starters only 64 finished. In the end I came 22nd. When we aren't on the bikes we are either watching the Olympics, in the ice bath or trying to stay up to date with uni, but enjoying every second of it.
31 August 2008 Last night we got back from France where the team competed in the Plouay World Cup and Trophee D'Or, a five day tour. The World Cup was a hard race. It was six laps of a 20km circuit, with three hills in a lap. In lap 3 the bunch split up and I made the front group. From then on every hill was flat out and there were numerous attacks. I stayed with the front group until the last climb of the last lap and finished 30th, which I am happy with as I don't think I could have given any more. Out of over 100 starters only 37 finished, so I can't complain! Fom there we had one rest day where we drove to the start of the Trophee D'Or. The tour was relatively flat, coming down to a bunch sprint five out of six stages. Stage five was the only hilly stage and the only one I felt ok in; at the beginning of the tour I don't think I had recovered from the World Cup. I stayed with the front group until the end. This moved me up on GC and put me third in the Young Rider Classification. The tour was almost my last race over here. Hope everything is going well back in Australia and thanks for all the support you have given me!
8 September 2008 I will be home at the end of this week. I raced my last race yesterday in Switzerland - a 1.1, which is the highest classification for a one day race. The course was quite hilly and over the 105km the bunch split up on numerous occasions. The weather definitely made my last race of the European calendar for 2008 a memorable one! When riding and warming up it was raining pretty hard. Luckily, after we had already gotten drenched, the sun came out and the race wasn't too bad. It broke up up the last climb, where I couldn't go with the attack. There were one's and two's up the road and I came in with a small bunch to finish in the top 20. Thank you for all your support. I have loved every moment over here.
