Laura Pettifer, a keen triathlete, was tragically killed on 6 December 2008 in a cycling accident near Mackay. Aged 26, Laura was in training for the Port Macquarie Iron Man competition when the accident occurred. Laura was a well loved member of the Mackay triathlon club, Road Runners, and many local sporting clubs. Her sporting accomplishments were extensive, including winning the Queen of the Mountain crown at Eungella in June this year. Laura was also a respected work colleague at the Department of Natural Resources and Water.

Laura will be missed by her family, friends, colleagues and competitors. Her family have asked that donations be made to the Amy Gillett Foundation in her loving memory.
