Remembering Amy for a Reason

Mary Safe, Amy’s mum, has put together an important life skills presentation for students in primary and secondary school. Her 45 minute presentation explains to young people the importance of goal setting, perseverance, dealing with disappointment and achieving success. Mary also includes some important bike safety messages throughout her presentation.

Drawing on many stories of Amy’s life as a successful netballer, rower and cyclist, the highlight for students is having the chance to see and wear Amy’s World Cup and Olympic medals.

Mary is currently conducting her presentations in primary and secondary schools in South Australia, with the support of the Department of Education.

Testimonials from North Haven Primary School students (SA)

Mary explained about road safety and the need to wear helmets correctly, also about the relationship between cyclists and drivers. 'Remembering Amy' means a lot. It means to inspire, to help, to achieve, to love and most importantly to remember great people like Amy.

I gained a lot during Mary Safe's visit, such as information regarding Mary Safe's daughter's life. Amy Gillett was a very persistent person, who set a lot of goals in her life. I also gained information about cycling, such as where to ride on the road, and what to wear when cycling.
