VicRoads launches Road User or Abuser road user campaign
7th February 2012
Launched by Minister Terry Mulder on 6 February 2012, Vic Roads has launched a new social media campaign designed to:
• Encourage a greater understanding and respect between bike riders and other road users.
• Encourage Victorian motorists to see bike riders as legitimate road users and to share the road with bike riders safely.
• Improve road user awareness and understanding of the cycling related road rules.
The campaign is being conducted for six weeks on a dedicated Facebook page. The Facebook page includes four engaging components:
• A discussion board for bike riders and other road users to discuss experiences and opinions on what it is like to share the road.
• A quiz to find out what type of road user you really are.
• Weekly polls to raise more discussion and clarify issues.
• A video to highlight how the road changes the way we act towards each other.
The social media campaign called ‘Road User or Abuser’ is the first of its kind, using a Facebook page as a forum for bike riders and drivers to come together to discuss their concerns about sharing Victoria’s roads.
The Amy Gillett Foundation, Bicycle Network Victoria and Victoria Police have been active stakeholders contributing input into elements of the campaign and encourages all road users to participate at facebook.com/RoadUserOrAbuser
