July 18, 2021, marks the 16th anniversary of Amy’s death. On this day I hope the Amy Gillett Foundation and its supporters can remember all riders who have been killed or seriously injured, along with their families and loved ones who live with this devastation daily.
Loss will be a part of everyone’s life but it is the sudden, traumatic loss (most cyclist crashes occur this way) that has to be dealt with daily whilst trying to rebuild a life without your loved one.
The AGF has grasped the possibility of positive change on our roads with supporters really caring about safe cycling issues, realizing we can make change happen. Just look to the “A Metre Matters” campaign which helped achieve legislation in all States and Territories of Australia.
Separated bike lanes are the way to go and we need to keep advocating for our three tiers of government for funding to keep cyclists safe in this way.
In the meantime, let’s all ride with great awareness and a good attitude as we share the road and help every cyclist get home safely.
So for all those cyclists who have gone “down the road before us” you will be forever loved, remembered and longed for.
SAFE CYCLING,
Mary & Denis Safe
